by Miss Libby

Posted on Sun Mar 25 2018

Kudos to the youngsters and (parents who brought them) to our "Fish for Fun" event March 24th. The fish didn't cooperate this time (for the first time in seven years). Crazy weather!

We had nine youngsters, six parents and three TUFF volunteers for 18 total participants and only one fish caught. Click on Read More to see the Catch of the Day ...

For their enthusiasm and perservering spirit, TUFF will definitely offer this group another chance when the weather is warmer and the fish are biting!

Let the Games Begin! 2018 TUFF DERBY STARTS March 1 to November 15th

by Miss Libby

Posted on Fri Mar 09 2018

Our Seasonal TUFF Derby starts every year on March 1st and runs thru November 15th. Our TUFF FISH REGISTRATION STATION at the Gatehouse got a much needed face lift thanks to the skills of long-time TUFF member Buster Harrill! Kudos to Buster! There is a Fish Registration form in a notebook in the cabinet underneath the TUFF Scoreboard. Or you can register online on this website (click on Catches) and the form goes directly to my e-mail account. (You don't have to log in to register or browse around this website.) Any Carolina Trace owner or renter, their family members or guests can enter to win a handsome engraved plaque (Adults) or beautiful Gold or Silver Fishing Medallions (Youth 16 & Under) in Bass, Crappie, Bream or Catfish Categories. (You don't have to be a member of TUFF or the Club to participate.) To register your catch, measure its length/girth, take a pic, release your fish where you caught it. If you don't have a cloth tape measure, cut a piece of your fishing line to measure the length and cut another piece of line to measure the girth ( the fattest part around the middle). Then call TUFF Director Libby Bibb at the Lake Hotline: 919-499-1300 who will post your entry on the TUFF Scoreboard. (Please do not write on the Scoreboard.) Click on Read More to see more pics. Good luck and TIGHT LINES! ...

Winter update FEB. 18...A Ray of Hope!

by Miss Libby

Posted on Wed Feb 14 2018

Well, if you want to feel frustrated, please read the  following TUFF Fishing Reports that were in the CTCC & CTGP newsletters last year:  "Due to the unseasonably warm weather, fishing can only be described as awesome in January and February in Lake Trace. There have been numerous reports of largemouth bass caught and released in the two to eight pound range, mostly hitting crankbaits in eight to 12 feet of water. There was a surprise catch of a three pound jack pickerel caught near Southwind Marina on Valentine’s Day. These fighters have not been reported to TUFF Director Libby Bibb (HL) at the Lake Hotline (919-499-1300) for eight years!"

Actually you can see some 2017 winter bass pics posted on previous blogs here.  SIGH ...

In 2018, our fishing reports during this bitter cold winter have only seen a 16 inch bass caught before the second snow from shore in the deeper North side of the lake and a fat four pound, 18.5 inch bass caught at Massena Ridge Feb. 6th.  Join TUFF and I'll tell you what lure got it to bite!

More news. Things looking better. TUFF members Buster Harrill and Mike Bentley went out in the warm weather 2/16 and hooked up with four bass - three from coves and one near the dam. Buster had some luck when he went "up the creek" 2/17 where he said the water temp was 58 degrees. MAIN PHOTO: Buster went out when it got so warm during the week of Feb. 22 and landed this 6 and 1/2 pound bass on a crankbait near North Traceway Bridge @ 5 pm. It was 25 inches long and looked like it had already spawned. This up and down, hot and cold weather is confusing to our Lake Trace fishery! ...
